Our purpose is to help working families save money by providing free income tax preparation and access to tax credits. Led by United Way, volunteers provide free income tax preparation assistance to families from throughout Los Angeles County.

In 2009, United Way’s committed volunteers provided free tax preparation services to nearly 39,500 households, helping them claim over $36.8 million in total refunds. $13.5 million of the total refunds were through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Through our efforts, individuals and families saved approximately $6 million in tax preparation fees by having trained, certified volunteers file their taxes for them.
